Author Information

Edgar-Pierre Jacobs, who, alongside Hergé, Jacques Martin, and Bob de Moor, belongs to the first generation of Belgian comic artists, was born in Brussels in 1904. Jacobs originally aspired to a career in theater but earned his first money at the age of sixteen by creating illustrations for department store catalogs. In the war year of 1942, work in theater became impossible, and Jacobs approached the editorial office of the youth magazine "Bravo" in hopes of landing a freelance job as an illustrator. Due to his skills, we also negotiated regular assignments with the editor; among other things, Jacobs briefly continued "Flash Gordon" by Alex Raymond when the strip's sequels were coming from the U.
