The book offers a new perspective on medieval Christianity. It was diverse and divided into many faith communities due to simple living conditions. It was only over the course of the thousand years of the Middle Ages that it began to unify. During these thousand years, the small Christian communities of the powerful, led by kings, formed a Christianity that spread across all of Europe and included people from all walks of life. This process was full of transformations that profoundly changed Christianity, accompanied by conflicts and new beginnings. Martin Kaufhold traces these transformations from the vibrant perspective of the people of that time and their significant questions. The presentation is close to the historical sources, and the 17 chapters outline the cosmos of medieval Christianity in accessible language, from the early medieval beginnings through the dramatic upheavals to the final things.
