Ibissur

Following in the footsteps of his ancestors, toy maker Osman travels east. His journey takes him to southern Russia, where he meets the vagabond Tschepucha. Together, they decide to travel to an abandoned fish factory at the far eastern end of the Siberian wilderness to restore it. Along the way, they pick up the one-armed orphan girl Nastja, who, as a silent third party, constantly stirs up trouble. With the fantastic goal of the fish factory in sight, they pass through places that present a bizarre reality, get entangled in a tangle of words, and increasingly struggle with their own fatigue of language and life. In his virtuoso debut, Roman Widder tells the story of a journey through Siberia as an emigration that becomes ensnared in its own deceptions, and the dream of finding a new world at the maximum distance from one’s origins.
