As part of the field trial of the AQUASHIFT project (2007) at Brunnsee (Chiemgau), the aim was to investigate the effects of temperature changes caused by climate change on phytoplankton-zooplankton interactions. The study examined the influences of light and temperature on the growth of plankton communities in a mesocosm experiment consisting of 24 different experimental tanks. Throughout the experiment, dialysis tests were conducted in conjunction with dilution series to measure growth rates of phytoplankton and predation effects, such as microzooplankton and mesozooplankton grazing on algal growth in situ. Semipermeable dialysis tubes were used, which were suspended in the individual enclosures. This ensured that the nutrient supply within the dialysis tube matched the conditions prevailing outside in the enclosure. As a result, specific effects regarding phytoplankton growth could be observed both inside and outside the dialysis tubes.
