On New Year's Eve 2009, Gerhard Richter and Alexander Kluge agree to collaborate at the Hotel Waldhaus in Sils Maria (Engadin). Richter captures the December nature of the Graubünden high mountains in 39 color photographs. Kluge juxtaposes his texts with these contemplative images. In this way, both approach the phenomenon of December. This book contains 39 images and 39 calendar stories, plus a coda with subversive moralities and lessons from history that aim to do anything but lull the reader into the childhood bliss of a month that is fatal year after year for global, national, and private history.
