Product details

"A picture is worth a thousand words." "Deutsche Grammatik sehen und verstehen" is a grammar work of a different kind, as it relies predominantly on the power of pictures. The work is suitable for learners from all countries of origin because it uses illustrations to explain grammar. The book is based on the following concept: the new grammatical phenomenon is clearly presented through illustrations with short explanations. In this way, the function and meaning of the form are made clear in two ways. Later on, a quick repetition of the learned form is uncomplicated and possible without long rereading, since lengthy explanations in a language foreign to the learners have been avoided. Principles of learning and perception psychology were taken into account in the design of the picture pages:

  • Picture and text are in a close relationship.
  • The illustration is either the direct pictorial representation of the associated sentence (e.g., "The man is sleeping." → A sleeping man can be seen.) or creates the frame situation for the example sentence (direct speech of the figures shown). Most sheets present the formation, use, and meaning of the new forms on one sheet. This gives the learner a general overview of the new topic. The sentence examples are kept simple and short. Long sentences and complicated vocabulary would confuse and distract learners and make it difficult to understand the new form.
  • The pages are clearly structured, avoiding unnecessarily long wandering of the eye. Different aspects of a topic (e.g., masculine, feminine, and neutral forms) are also spatially separated. The partly humorous representations appeal to the learners' emotional range and provide additional motivation. The preparation of the teaching material makes it easier for learners to understand the new forms and their function and to permanently anchor them in their long-term memory.
