The German Poetry presents literary history in a clear, vivid, and engaging manner. It consistently follows the exemplary principle. Technical terminology is only used where necessary for an appropriate understanding.

The volume emphasizes aspects that correspond to the needs of teaching practice: literature from the 19th and 20th centuries occupies a significant space, contemporary literature is presented in detail, and important contemporary authors are featured. The development from the early Old High German period to the Baroque is succinctly illustrated.
