Writing expert opinions is a central examination requirement in law studies. Many students have great difficulty learning the technique and style of writing expert opinions and meeting the examination requirements. In this textbook, the thought process involved in writing an expert opinion is therefore presented in small steps and in a clear manner for civil law, criminal law and public law and applied to legal cases in extensive exercises. Based on reading exercises that serve to analyse cases, the parts of an expert opinion, i.e. the upper sentence, definition, subsumption and result, are described in terms of their functional significance. A significant part of the textbook is taken up by writing tasks that gradually lead to the creation of an expert opinion. The textbook can be used as part of a course, but is also suitable for self-study. It is aimed at students whose native language is not German.
