Descartes' 'Meditationen über die Grundlagen der Philosopie'

Descartes' "Meditations" are perhaps 'the' classic of philosophy. They deal with fundamental questions: What kinds of objects are found in the world? What kind of thing am I? Am I free? What is truth? What status do logical truths or mathematical theorems have? What can I know? Gregor Betz' systematic commentary reconstructs the corresponding trains of thought and justifications and attempts to provide answers to Descartes' questions. Other philosophers, especially those of the 20th century, are also placed in a dialogue with Descartes. For to understand a philosophical position ultimately also means to overlook "which other theses it implies and with which other positions it comes into conflict", says the author of the volume.
