The wood merchant Filippo Genuardi, called Pippo, is enthusiastic about everything new: he owns an Edison phonograph and a motorized four-wheeler that he had brought from Paris. And now he wants a telephone - a sensation in the Sicily of 1891. Pippo's request is suspect to the prefect. What does a wood merchant need a telephone for? But Pippo isn't a fool, he knows how things work on his island. He meets friends who have friends again, who can get his proposal going, for a small favor, as it happens. Soon half of Sicily is involved in the case.
