Der Umzug

Every morning, Émile Jovis drives from the Parisian new development where he has just moved in with his family to the city center. He alone has decided that they will live in this suburban neighborhood, has gone into debt for the condominium to make his family happy. Now he lies awake at night next to his sleeping wife. He lies awake because the walls are thin. He lies awake because night after night he eavesdrops on his new neighbors, two people who love each other excessively. Émile catches the name of a nightclub and is drawn to it as if by magic. And the man who has never received a parking ticket and whose orderly life is thrown into disarray precisely by the move to the solid new development drinks champagne and follows a stripper into a private booth.
