Inheritance law and especially international inheritance law often represent estate planning. Approximately 30 billion CHF are inherited in Switzerland every year. The testator often wants to determine the distribution of the estate himself before the inheritance takes place. For this planning, he or she needs not only certainty, but also clarity about the applicable legal system and the adjudicating court in the event of a dispute. This Master's thesis deals with the national and international jurisdiction system of Switzerland and Germany on the basis of the inheritance of the compulsory portion. It also highlights the jurisdictional grounds of the EU Inheritance Regulation, which will enter into force on August 17, 2015, as well as its impact on Switzerland. The different jurisdictions are compared and analyzed.
