Argentine Tango has been a projection surface for numerous clichéd attributions since its emergence in the early 20th century. Once labeled as disreputable, provocative, and a dance of the lower classes, it has retained its reputation for being scandalous to this day. But what lies behind these clichés? Is Tango truly erotic and a macho dance, and what motivates people in Austria today to adopt this transcultural practice and make it an essential part of their lives? Johanna Resetarits explored these questions during her field research in the Vienna Tango scene and presents in her book 'Tango and Emotion' some insights into how the fundamental elements of the dance influence its unique allure.
