Hitchhiking through Iran, swimming to Bali, cycling across Australia, completing an ultramarathon from Mexico to Colombia: the adventures that Marinus Obermair can recount are beyond what some might fit into an entire lifetime – and Marinus is only 22 years old. On the day of his journeyman examination, he quits his job to fulfill a dream: he begins his world trip by the roadside, thumb out, hoping for a ride. Over the next two years, he travels thousands of kilometers without money and without stepping on a plane. He sleeps on park benches, sofas of strangers, or in a bamboo hut of an indigenous tribe in Tuvalu, a Pacific island nation. Flat tires, robberies, food poisoning – nothing can stop him. When Marinus finally returns to his small hometown, he has also experienced an inner journey. His experiences have shown him: courage is contagious, it’s worth trusting in the good, and we can all achieve more than we think.
