Nineteen-year-old Lilli Sternberg, who is deaf, disappears without a trace on her way to the beach. The police, led by Chief Inspector Tom Engelhardt, immediately comb the entire area: the beach, the village of Sellnitz where Lilli lives with her grandparents, and the surrounding countryside. No results. The only clue is Lilli's last text message to a friend: a photo of a seemingly random sequence of symbols drawn in the sand. Engelhardt receives assistance from cryptologist Mascha Krieger from the LKA. However, the investigators are in the dark: Was Lilli kidnapped, and is the photo a message from the perpetrator? Did Lilli send some kind of coded farewell note? Does the writing in the sand have anything to do with her disappearance at all?.
