"Where there is light, there is also shadow," it is said. The same applies to human personality: we bring certain aspects of ourselves into the light while other personality traits are repressed into the unconscious. The shadow is what a person does not want to be, yet it is still part of them, and it is often projected onto others—such as strangers or asylum seekers—and fought against there.
