This book presents about 365 different proofs in a very illustrative and understandable form, and it also categorizes the theorem along with its variety of proofs from a scientific, cultural, didactic, and educational theoretical perspective. Furthermore, it includes a detailed presentation of a repeatedly tested teaching unit for general education schools, centered around this very diversity of proofs. In this context, Pythagoras serves as a model for the discoveries of ancient mathematics, demonstrating how mathematical truths are interconnected. The collection also offers students a unique insight into the workings of mathematics and its deductive structure.

The collection of proofs is based on a work by Elisha Scott Loomis (1852-1940), who collected, systematized, and published hundreds of algebraic and geometric proofs at the beginning of the 20th century: a crystallization point for the intellectual and cultural history of mathematics, highly exemplary condensed around the Pythagorean theorem. Now, the Loomis collection is being published for the first time in German in a completely revised and expanded edition.
