Federica de Cesco wrote her first novel, "The Red Silk Scarf", when she was just fifteen. She did it because she thought Indians were portrayed too one-sidedly in films and books, but also because she preferred to make up stories rather than listen to her teachers. The adventure - set in Arizona at the turn of the century - revolves around young Ann, who by chance meets Chee, the boy with the golden eyes, and through him enters the world of the Indians. Federica de Cesco owes the fact that "The Red Silk Scarf" became the beginning of an unprecedented success to her career counsellor at the time. She judged the pupil to be completely unimaginative, to which Federica defended herself with the words: "That's not true! Well, the career counsellor asked to read it, retracted her accusation of lack of imagination and recommended that Federica send the manuscript to a publisher. And from the moment it became clear that "The Red Silk Scarf" would be published as a book, Federica had only nice teachers.
