Product details
This volume presents recent research findings on the history of Nazi euthanasia, which were presented at the autumn conference of the working group for the study of Nazi euthanasia and forced sterilization from November 11 to 13, 2016, at the Pfalzklinikum Klingenmünster. It is jointly edited by members of the working group, the local co-organizers of the conference, and representatives of the hosting institution. The aim of the conference and the conference volume was primarily to contextualize the patient murders in the Klingenmünster care facility within the regional southwest German context, which also extended beyond the borders of the time, as the routes of the victims connected the then Bavarian Palatinate with the rest of Bavaria, Baden, Alsace-Lorraine, and the Hessian Hadamar. Thus, the first part of the book – Klingenmünster in Context. The NS Murder of the Sick in Regional and Historical References – includes contributions on the Palatinate, Alsace, and Bavaria. The second part of the volume, After the War. Klingenmünster, Starvation Deaths, and the Perception of the Murder of the Sick in the French Occupation Zone, continues the regional historical theme into the post-war period. In the tradition of the working group, which also addresses current ethical questions, the third part of the volume is dedicated to the currently discussed issue of data protection and the remembrance of victims of patient murder under the title Naming and Remembrance – Societal and Familial Processes.
