This book focuses on the role of real deaf actors in cinema and television films. 1046 articles with deaf protagonists are analysed in the categories of 'normal' long cinema and television films, short films, appearances of deaf actors in single episodes of television series and their participation in biopics and documentaries. Objectively ascertainable as well as subjectively derivable data from the material are analysed using statistical methods. The reactions conveyed by the films are also analysed.

The book sets focus on the meaning of the roles of actors who are deaf in their real life in performances in 1046 movies and/or episodes of TV series. Objective data derived from the movies/films and those which are based on the subjective impression of the spectator are analysed by using statistical methods. For readers not being familiar with the German language English abstracts of each chapter of the book are added to the text.
