Der populistische Moment

The traditional political class hardly solves any problems anymore and shows no way to overcome the various crises; rather, it seems to contribute to them. The people long believed that conditions would improve with a change of government. However, they no longer believe this since they have realized that the former major parties, which just yesterday pretended to oppose each other head-on, no longer differ from one another. This disappointment favored protest voting and populism. The populist parties were, in fact, the first to recognize a change in political and social demands that the traditional parties fail to understand because they are mentally trapped in habits and thought patterns that prevent them from doing so.
