This is the story of a family at war, in a place without a name, which could play in many parts of the world. As in a chamber play, highly topical and at the same time of timeless validity, the novel tells of manipulation and morality, of brotherly love and of a secret, in a clear and poetic language. When their grandparents die, the childhood of twins Amed and Aziz ends abruptly. One of the brothers is to become a martyr. The terminally ill Aziz must not be sacrificed for religious reasons, says the father. But Amed is afraid. And his mother does not want to lose both sons. Larry Tremblay's novel "My Brother's Name" is an impressive plea against war, a big sales success in Canada and meanwhile school reading. It was awarded the Quebec Booksellers' Prize.
