Product details

The first and last play by Rainer Werner Fassbinder. "Just a Slice of Bread," the debut of the then 21-year-old author, tells the story of director Hans Fricke, who is making a feature film about Auschwitz. The more he delves into the horror, the further he distances himself from friends and family, culminating in a breakup with his girlfriend. "Just a Slice of Bread has survived relatively unscathed for almost three decades. How many German plays from the same era can we say that about?" (Ulrich Weinzierl, FAZ) "The Waste, the City, and Death," Fassbinder's final play, has sparked intense controversy since its premiere in 1976. Heiner Müller wrote about the play: "Fassbinder's The Waste, the City, and Death depicts, in vivid and striking images, the devastation of a city through the lens of a victim's revenge. The city is Frankfurt. The instrument.".
