Product details

London in the 1920s: A large crowd gathers outside the theater in the West End, eager for tickets to the final performances of the musical. Suddenly, a young man collapses in the midst of the crowd, a dagger lodged in his back. No one among the bystanders claims to have seen anything. And who is the victim, anyway? A case for Inspector Grant of Scotland Yard, whose investigations get off to a difficult start. The Scottish author Josephine Tey (1896–1952) transcended the boundaries that were set for the crime genre in her time, creating a clever novel full of surprising twists with her first case for Inspector Grant.

Josephine Tey's crime novels are not to be missed: one served as the basis for a Hitchcock film, and another was chosen by the Crime Writers’ Association in 1990 as the best crime novel of all time. Inspector Alan Grant is a fantastic character, and the books are exceptionally well-written. A classic of the Golden Age of crime literature and the first volume in the six-part Alan Grant series. A great reading pleasure with a healthy dose of British humor.
