Der Mond über Jerusalem

In Jerusalem, there is a sense of new beginnings – the economy is booming, peace with Palestine seems possible, and the countdown to the launch of Apollo 11 is on television. It is July 16, 1969. On this single day, when world history is being made, five people in Jerusalem go about their daily lives. At first glance, they seem to have nothing in common, yet their lives are intertwined. There is seven-year-old Charlie, whose mother has never gotten over the death of his father; Said, a mute garbage collector; the young Canadian English teacher Beth, who fled from her parents; Hans, the German who escaped the Holocaust; and Baruch, the carpenter who fled Mostar as a child. For all of them, Jerusalem is a refuge. When the moon landing succeeds, it is a giant leap for mankind, yet just a small step for the people on Earth.
