Author text
Carl G. Jung, born on 26 July 1875 in Kesswil in Switzerland, studied medicine and worked at the psychiatric clinic of the University of Zurich (Burghölzli) from 1900-09. From 1905-13 he was a lecturer at the University of Zurich, from 1933-42 a titular professor at the ETH and in 1943 a full professor of psychology in Basel. Together with Sigmund Freud and Alfred Adler, Jung is one of the three pioneers of modern depth psychology. After the separation from Sigmund Freud (1913) he developed his own school of analytical psychology. C. G. Jung died on 6 June 1961 in Küsnacht.

Flap text
This richly illustrated standard work - on the market for over forty years - reveals the meaning of symbols. C. G. Jung and four other eminent psychologists introduce the reader to the world of archetypes, dreams, myths and the developmental processes of the soul: C. G. Jung writes about access to the unconscious, Joseph L. Henderson about modern man and myths, Marie-Louise von Franz about the individuation process, Aniela Jaffé about the visual arts as a symbol and Jolande Jacobi about symbols on the path to maturity.
