Der Liber Ordinarius

The Liber Ordinarius is a model book according to which the liturgical books for all houses of the Teutonic Order were produced from 1244 onwards, based on the Dominican liturgy. It remained of binding importance for the Liturgy of the Hours and the Mass in its daily form, i.e. the spiritual life of the Order in its entire area of distribution from the Mediterranean to the Baltic. This is an essential source for the spirituality of the Order as well as for the definition of its identity, and also a distinguishing feature from other orders until the beginning of the 17th century, when it was brought into line with the Roman rite.
