Living in exile in Italy since 1933, Rudolf Borchardt lived in various villas, in whose gardens he became a passionate gardener.In 1938 he began to write down his reflections on the practice, history and philosophy of the garden. Thus, in addition to discussions on the idea of the garden, the difference between wild and tamed nature, and the connection between death and the garden, a collection of remotely interesting facts and very concrete practical tips on gardening and floriculture emerged, which are combined in Passionate Gardener into a book with powerful language. The planned great gardening book did not appear during his lifetime, it was published posthumously in 1951 and very quickly became a cult book.
