Product details

The economic plan of Austrian Prime Minister Ernest von Koerber (1850-1919), who governed from 1900 to 1904, is a topic of European dimensions. The concepts of the Koerber Plan were at the time regarded as the boldest and most far-reaching initiatives in the history of the Dual Monarchy. The social aspect is particularly significant in light of the political conflicts and becomes evident in the context of the social and economic tensions that the Koerber Plan sought to alleviate. Koerber aimed to revitalize the previously neglected economic sectors of the Habsburg Monarchy through his economic program, which was intended not only to raise general prosperity but also to contain the nationalities dispute. The goal of the Koerber Plan was to improve the living conditions for the many nationalities within the Dual Monarchy. The thesis was that no nationality would leave the Habsburg Empire if the economic situation of all citizens did not justify it. This goal is still frequently mentioned in the context of the European Union today.
