It is well known that a person is not only composed of their physical body but also possesses higher aspects or components of being. Esoteric literature refers to the physical body as well as the etheric body, the astral body, the mental body, and the causal body, which together with the actual soul and spirit complete the sevenfold nature of a person. In recent decades, various esoteric fields have produced a significant amount of literature discussing the functions of these different components. This includes the importance of the etheric body for health, the projection of the astral body during so-called astral travel or near-death experiences, and the impact of positive thinking on the mental body.
