Der Internistenkongress in Wiesbaden 1882-2022

Founded in 1882 in Wiesbaden, the "Conference for Internal Medicine" has chosen its birthplace and hometown 107 times over its 140-year history, and only 20 times for other cities. The congress was canceled 13 times (during World War I and II). Typically, the Kurhaus was available for the expert lectures and the accompanying social program. Due to the steadily increasing number of participants and the growing exhibition industry, the venue proved to be insufficient. Under pressure from internists and exhibitors, local politicians decided to construct the Rhein-Main Hall (1957), and when that no longer met the spatial and technical requirements, they built the state-of-the-art RheinMain CongressCenter (2018). The book outlines the development of the congress and its friendly—though not entirely conflict-free—relationship with its birthplace and hometown.
