Product details

"The Hobbit" is the beginning of all modern fantasy and tells the prequel to "The Lord of the Rings". Here it is presented in a revised edition with illustrations by the world-famous artist and Tolkien expert Alan Lee. Bilbo Baggins lives in the Shire without any great pretensions until he is torn from his tranquillity and his cosy everyday life by the wizard Gandalf and a horde of dwarves. Suddenly he finds himself in the middle of an adventure that leads him to the huge and dangerous dragon Smaug, who has taken possession of a precious treasure and jealously guards it. With 26 colour plates and 38 black and white drawings by the well-known Tolkien artist Alan Lee, who was instrumental in creating the visualisation of Tolkien's world and characters for the "Lord of the Rings" film. Alan Lee, born in Middlesex in 1947, is considered one of the most important illustrators of J. R. R. Tolkien's works. He was honoured with an Oscar in 2004 for his designs for the "Lord of the Rings" film trilogy.
