Product details

"The Hobbit" is the beginning of all modern fantasy and tells the backstory to "The Lord of the Rings." Here it is presented in a newly revised edition with illustrations by the world-renowned artist and Tolkien expert Alan Lee.

Without any great ambitions, Bilbo Baggins lives in the Shire until he is pulled from his tranquility and cozy routine by the wizard Gandalf and a horde of dwarves. Suddenly, he finds himself in the midst of an adventure that leads him to the enormous and dangerous dragon Smaug, who has acquired a precious treasure and guards it jealously.

Featuring 26 color plates and 38 black-and-white drawings by the well-known Tolkien artist Alan Lee, who played a significant role in visualizing Tolkien's world and characters for "The Lord of the Rings" film. Alan Lee, born in 1947 in Middlesex, is considered one of the most important illustrators of the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. He was awarded the Oscar in 2004 for his designs for "The Lord of the Rings" film trilogy.
