Product details

The author, born in 1940 in Gdansk, presents her experiences and memories during the war in this book, particularly focusing on the constant bombings and the associated stays in air raid shelters. She also describes the daily struggle for survival amidst the ruins of Gdansk. Furthermore, she recounts the subsequent escape over Rügen to Lübeck to Flenderlager II. For seven formative years, she lived with her initially six-member family in a single barrack room in Lübeck-Siems at Flenderlager. She not only documented her own significant situations but also incorporated original texts from her mother's estate and her older siblings. In fictional letters to them and to her father, she provides insight into her emotional world during those years and the value and strength of family bonds.
