Der Grinch

The Grinch is a vile character with a narrow heart full of resentment and coldness. He is a Christmas grouch and would prefer to abolish the festival of love altogether. He almost succeeds, but then everything turns out quite differently. The Grinch hates Christmas with everything that comes with it: the cheers of children as they unwrap gifts, the festive meals, and the communal singing. So he plans to ruin the holiday for them. He disguises himself as Santa Claus, squeezes down chimneys into homes, and steals all their Christmas preparations: the tree, the gifts, the decorations; he even empties the refrigerators down to the last crumb. However, his plan fails – he cannot steal the magic and love of the Christmas season, and in the end, even his hard, little heart becomes soft and large. Dr. Seuss's book about the Grinch, published in 1957, is a Christmas classic known by every child in America. Its 2018 remake – the most successful Christmas movie of all time – has also secured the Grinch a place on the list of holiday favorites here.
