Lajes do Pico in the 1980s. The ban on whaling plunges the residents of the Azores archipelago into crisis. How will they feed their families from now on? While the old world is coming to an end for the whalers, new paths open up for young Mateus, who comes from a traditional whaling family. When he meets the French sailor Manon, he falls head over heels in love with her and joins her in the fight for whale protection. The nearly impossible mission on the island puts their love to a tough test.
