Author: Albert Camus

Albert Camus was born on November 7, 1913, in poor circumstances as the son of a Spanish mother and an Alsatian father in Mondovi, Algeria. From 1933 to 1936, he studied philosophy at the University of Algiers. In 1934, he joined the Communist Party of Algeria and founded the Theater of Work the following year. He broke with the Communist Party in 1937. In 1938, he wrote his first play, Caligula, which premiered in 1945. Camus moved to Paris in 1940. Alongside his plays, the novel The Stranger and the essay The Myth of Sisyphus established his literary reputation. In 1957, Albert Camus was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. He died in a car accident on January 4, 1960. The complete works of Albert Camus are published by Rowohlt Verlag.
