She brought hope in the darkest of times. Warsaw, 1940: As the Nazis establish the ghetto, 29-year-old social worker Irena does everything she can to help her Jewish fellow citizens. The fate of the children weighs heavily on her heart, and she decides to take action. Under her coat, Irena smuggles a baby past the guards and hides it under a false name with a non-Jewish family. What begins as a single courageous act soon becomes a large-scale rescue operation. With the help of friends, Irena smuggles more and more children out of the ghetto with fake "Aryan" identities. She never thinks of giving up, even though she is in constant danger of death. But Irena must not only worry for her own life. For Adam, her great love, is Jewish.
