Can evil thoughts kill? A series of suicides at an elite college in Münsterland is puzzling: A certain Armin Waldemar claims to have brought about the acts with the help of dark energy. What does the obscure Waldemar, who has devoted himself to so-called paracosmology, want with his absurd confession? Is he trying to drum up publicity for the strange institute he runs in Amelsbüren? When another suicide occurs, ex-commissioner Niklas de Jong sets out together with his former colleague Achim Bühlow to find out the truth. The private investigator actually has his hands full: his current client, the beau Ulf Meckelbeck, is hitting on Giulia, of all people, his ex-girlfriend, and as if all that were not enough, his highly talented brother Janwillem comes forward and asks de Jong for help in a kidnapping case that he messed up.
