When Theo Decker is thirteen years old, he loses his mother in a tragic accident. He sinks into deep sorrow. The painting, which he possesses illegally and which reminds him of his mother, offers him no comfort. On the contrary: with each passing year, he strays further from his path and risks slipping into criminal circles. It seems as if the painting, which fascinates him in a strange way, is pulling him into a world of lies and wrong decisions, a current that drags him along uncontrollably.
