Product details

After its bloody defeat in the Battle of Tannenberg in 1410, the Order State in Prussia entered a phase of decline. In 1454, the Prussian cities and knights rose against the rule of the Order brothers and allied themselves with the King of Poland. A thirteen-year war broke out. The crusading enthusiasm that had once brought huge armies of voluntarily serving knights to the Order at the height of its power had since faded. Instead, mercenaries dictated the course of the war. Their maintenance consumed vast sums, and when the Order could no longer raise the necessary funds, the mercenaries seized control of the land themselves. This volume deals with the military aspects of this last significant conflict in the history of the Teutonic Order. In addition to the composition of the individual armies, the equipment is also discussed.
