Content: - The Blue Carbuncle: The story takes place on December 26, 1889. On the morning of this day, hotel porter Peterson witnesses an assault on a tall man after a celebration. When he intervenes, the assailants flee, but the victim leaves behind a worn felt hat with the initials 'HB' inscribed on it and a Christmas goose, to which a card for the wife of a certain Henry Baker is attached. Peterson brings both items to Sherlock Holmes. Based on the size and condition of the hat, Holmes deduces that it belongs to an intelligent but morally corrupt owner, while Peterson's wife prepares the Christmas goose. In the process, she discovers the Blue Carbuncle, a famous diamond that the Countess of Morcar lost five days earlier at the Cosmopolitan Hotel. Twenty-six-year-old plumber John Horner is charged as the suspected thief; he has a prior conviction for a similar crime and was present at the hotel at the time of the incident... - A Study in Scarlet is a detective novel by Arthur Conan Doyle and marks the first appearance of his detective Sherlock Holmes. Watson and Holmes meet in 1881 and share an apartment on Baker Street. This marks the beginning of their famous friendship. While they are still getting to know each other, a letter arrives from Tobias Gregson, asking Holmes to assist him with an unexplained death near Brixton Road in Lauriston Gardens. The murdered man, Drebber, is found in an abandoned house. The word "Rache" (German for "revenge") is written on the wall in blood. Holmes discovers a woman's wedding ring with the body. There is blood in the rooms, but it does not belong to Drebber, who appears to be completely unharmed.
