Few other animal species in Central Europe have made such a successful comeback as the beaver. This true master builder is back. By damming, felling, and building, beavers create an effective habitat connection for entire water systems both on a micro level and across landscapes, allowing vanished species to return. Wherever beavers clear riparian vegetation, permanently dam ponds, and create wilderness, they provide ecosystem services such as water storage, sediment filtration, and groundwater replenishment.
