Bachelor thesis from the year 2012 in the subject area Social Work, grade: 1,7, Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences Braunschweig/Wolfenbüttel , language: German, abstract: The first part of this thesis deals with burnout. At the beginning, a definition is found, taking into account various professional representatives, such as the psychologist Herbert Freudenberger. After a basic understanding of the concept of burnout has been conveyed, the demands on social workers are briefly outlined in order to establish a basic understanding of stressful situations. The third aspect of this topic is the description of the burnout process, based on the explanations of the psychotherapist Sabine Fabach. In the third chapter, a causal analysis is presented from two primarily discussed approaches. These are, on the one hand, the personality-centred and, on the other hand, the social, occupational and organisational psychological explanatory approach. The fourth chapter deals with the complex symptoms that can occur during burnout. This point is followed by the intervention and prevention measures available to helpers. The second block turns to secondary traumatisation. As in the previous block, finding a definition will play an important role in the introduction. Before that, however, the focus is on the trauma of another person as the triggering instance. In the seventh chapter, the focus is on the causes of secondary traumatisation. There are parallels to the causes of burnout mentioned in the third point. There are also similarities in the symptoms, but, as with the causes, the differences will be the focus of attention. Finally, in the second theoretical block, possible intervention and prevention measures for secondary traumatisation are outlined. The scientific basis is followed by an interpretation and reference of these problems to a recommendation for action in social work. In summary, all the results of this work are briefly and succinctly reviewed.
