The Peasants' War has been interpreted in very different ways: as a "revolution of the common man," as a struggle for economic resources, as a religious conflict, and as a multitude of regional uprisings. This collection of essays explores the concepts and ideas that the leading actors developed regarding the organization of their communities. What terminologies for the communities and their organization can be identified in the existing evidence? What notions of norms and organization, as well as participation, can be documented? How were these enforced? What legal forms were conceivable? What role did ideas of household community and gender play? In what way did the Peasants' War influence later reflections on the state and statehood? Ulrich Niggemann has been researching the revolts and revolutions of the Early Modern period for some time.
