It is truly advisable to recommend a 'new' book to the young local colleague who, relieved after passing the state exam, has set aside his textbooks? We too longed for distance after years of studying and good advice. The knowledge we acquired needed to be tested in practice! At the bedside of our first seriously ill patient, we became aware of our inadequacy. We had studied diligently and heard much about diseases, but the sick person in the uniqueness of their situation and in their distress remained foreign to us. From personal experience in the first years of residency and to help the young colleague navigate the abundance of practice, this book was created. It is not a treasure trove of knowledge, but a vademecum for the first years of practical work on the wards. It aims to consider the many 'trivialities' that are often so important and have become second nature to the older colleagues. It seeks to bridge the gap between the state exam and personal experience and to point out the seriousness and blessings of the nursing profession to the aspiring doctor. The purpose of the book is to provide the resident with a guide to help them find the right path.
