Product details
Already as a GULAG prisoner Solzhenitsyn decided to report on the system of the penal camp archipelago, to write a chronicle of events and to describe the lives of the prisoners and their guards. He wanted to show as comprehensive a picture as possible of this gloomy state within the state. The first Western translation of the work appeared in German in 1974. The present volume is the abridged version of his three-volume complete works authorized by Alexander Solzhenitsyn.
