Product details
Funny, absurd, touching. "The Arab of Tomorrow! Volume IV" tells the years between 1987 and 1992. Riad's life between Syria and France becomes even more complicated, and his parents, the Frenchwoman and the Arab, understand each other less and less. Riad's father works in Saudi Arabia and fully embraces Islam. Riad's mother moves back to Brittany with their three children because she cannot bear her husband's religious lifestyle. But then the whole family must return to Syria.
The grand autobiographical narrative "The Arab of Tomorrow" focuses on Riad Sattouf's childhood in the Middle East and will consist of five volumes. Volume 1 (2015) covers his birth until the age of six, with young Riad and his family living alternately in Libya, France, and Syria. Volume 2 (2016) recounts Riad's first year at a village school in Syria. In Volume 3 (2017), Riad is between six and nine years old and begins to slowly understand the peculiarities of the society in which he is growing up. Volume 4, with 288 pages of special length, builds towards a dramatic climax and the father's coup.
The series "The Arab of Tomorrow" is an international phenomenon, translated into 21 languages. Sattouf has received numerous awards, including the "Grand prix RTL" for Graphic Novels (2014), the Fauve d’or in Angoulême (for the best album), and the Los Angeles Times Graphic Novel Prize (2016).
