Usually, religion is contemplated from theological, historical, or political perspectives. In doing so, it is forgotten that gods always encounter believers in a mediated way - through texts or media. Poets put metaphors in their mouths; priests stage rituals dramatically; confessions are also constituted through aesthetic processes. Religions are always literary products, with which authors compete for clients in the narrow market of attention.

In "Bringing the Gods to Speak," Peter Sloterdijk outlines an aesthetics of the theological: Theopoetics. In the present, according to Sloterdijk's conclusion from three millennia of theological history, religion has been liberated to its irreducible function: the interpretation of existence in its singularity and its interweaving with other singularities.
