Demokratische Auszeit

The relationship between corona policy and democracy appears ambiguous and ambivalent: either it is understood as an authoritarian health emergency and a threat to democratic processes or it is seen as a routine democratic and constitutional way of dealing with problems. Beyond this dichotomy, André Brodocz and Hagen Schölzel integrate the exceptional nature of the pandemic and the genuinely democratic controversies and decision-making processes into a theory of "democratic time-out". In doing so, they reflect on public discussions about fundamental value orientations and open up perspectives for a new foundation of democracy in the face of its threats.
