Alex Carey (1922 - 1987) was an Australian writer and social psychologist who taught at the University of South Wales. His research on corporate propaganda is considered pioneering work. Not least for this reason, Noam Chomsky and Edward S. Herman dedicated their magnum opus "Manufacturing Consent" to him. Carey's posthumously published book "Taking the Risk Out of Democracy" is now regarded as one of the most significant titles in his field.
